San Diego - Day 23 - 6th stop
Three days ago we drove south to San Diego, near the Mexican border. I didn't really know what to expect of it, but a friend of Jeroen had been there before and said that it was a great city, so it would probably be better than LA. In LA we had shared our room with 2 non-English-speaking Japs and three 24/7drunk French guys, so we were happy to arrive in our four-bed room with one empty bed in San Diego.
San Diego turned out to be a great city, with a big park with gardens and museums, a place where people find themselves walking their wolves. I'm not kidding, there was a guy 'walking his wolf'. I stroked it :))) The park also has a zoo, which we went to yesterday, with koala bears, tree kangaroos, panda bears (that we didn't see because we thought the line was too long), and all kinds of animals that we don't see back home. If Stefan would've been an animal, he would've been a bird, he said. It makes sense, he'd fly high, minding his own business, having an overview of the world to take pictures, because that's what he does. If Jeroen would've been an animal, he would've been a lion, he said. He'd be king of the fauna, waving his manes in the warm summer breeze, without a care in the world, as long as everything goes well.
In La Jolla, a little town north of San Diego, we went to the coast. It had been a warm and bright day but once we entered the town, we drove into ghost city. The sky turned white, the view disappeared and the chill air surprised us. When we got to the ocean, however, we looked down upon a wonderful brown-and-yellow cliff surrounding the clear blue water. Seals were stretched out on the rocks and swimming through the caves, Pelicans covered the cliffs and after a while the fog disappeared and we had a beautiful view over the coast.
After La Jolla we went to Mission Beach in San Diego. We walked along the boardwalk and saw our millionth sunset, ever so romantic. There was a fake wave that guys practiced their surfing skills on. One of them even took selfies while surfing with his waterproof camera. Awkward.
We were in a bar yesterday evening where there was a boxing ball-machine. I broke my personal record which I am still very proud of because Jeroen & Stefan made fun of my hitting like a girl. They've never seen me angry, you know. Jeroen broke the local record and a guy that was twice his size tried to battle him. and lost. He put ten bucks in it and after three hits he walked away, poor big guy.
San Diego is covered in homeless people, again. I don't know what it is in America but every city seems to have a homeless people plague. In San Diego the homeless made a homeless village. Or I should say a homeless city. They've gathered together within a few blocks, set up tents and dropped all their stuff there. It seems almost cozy!
In the hostel we're in we get free waffle-breakfast. This morning we found there is a waffle thief in the hostel staff. She bakes waffles for breakfast and then bakes new waffles to take with her as lunch. Because she did, we couldn't have a decent breakfast anymore. They shouldn't let people like her work in a hostel. I hope she's not there tomorrow, I'm hungry too in the morning, waffle bitch!
Tomorrow morning we are (Jeroen is) going to drive to Las Vegas, where we will finally sleep in a decent bed in a hotel again. I am going to lose all the government's student money and will be back home sooner, then.
