Sunday 15/12, day 2
The finals were finally over, my bags were packed, my apartment was clean, my roommates have left and the cab was waiting in front of the clubhouse: It was time to take a bus to the unknown. Not really true, I've been in New Orleans before on a day trip, because it's only three hours away from Pensacola. Very close, for American standards.
The bus departed from Pensacola's ghetto, I think. The whores and their clients were coming out of the nearest motel to have lunch at the local McDonalds. Awkward? We also had a prisoner who just got released in our bus. He told us that he'd let Jeroen and I sit together for five bucks. Too bad for him, a Mexican guy already offered.
New Orleans is called the City of Jazz and it's true. In the French Quarter, where all the small shops are situated, there's Jazz everywhere. On every corner of every street you'll find musicians truly playing their hearts out.
They say Paris is romantic, but New Orleans' French Quarter, with its music, its small balconies, its Christmas lights, make a perfect spot for a romantic walk. I happen to be here with somebody I've really come to like over the last couple of months, and even the crappy cold hostel room with the nearly cracked bed is not spoiling the feeling of this city. It makes the room sort of cozy even. Or not, whatever. Its good being here. The city, the different kinds of people, and the crowds. The citycars (trams) honking, sound so much better than another 'Hello this is Yellow-cab, how can I help you?". I've missed the city and everything about it.
BUT! All good things come to an end. just kidding. Tomorrow is our last day here, Tuesday we'll fly to Miami to enjoy the sun and the beach. I'll tell you all about it. Stay posted!
